PRIMARY PURPOSE OF POSITION

To support the development and execution of External Affairs' activities in Baltimore City. Role provides planning, tracking and organization function for External Affairs Team. Responsible for planning and executing broad communications and targeted outreach activities to elected and agency officials. Position also serves as primary interface with local and state elected officials and their staffs who are in need of customer assistance for their constituents. Position may be required to work extended hours for coverage during storms or other energy delivery emergencies.


PRIMARY DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Identify and seek resolution of issues of county and local officials in a timely manner to enhance customer satisfaction and to minimize or eliminate potential negative publicity or response from county, local and state officials. (50%)
  • Plan and support communication programs and strategic relationship building activities with city officials in support of Company's reputation, key stakeholder relationships and to raise awareness and garner support for company initiatives. (25%)
  • Develop and maintain a network of internal & external support resources in support of position's day-to-day responsibilities and special projects. (25%)


JOB SCOPE

Requires detailed knowledge of Company's service territory, external political and government structures, BGE's electric and gas operations and customer service policies. Requires development of effective relationships across all business units of company and with decision makers in the governmental, business and community sectors. Position utilizes communication, organization and facilitation skills. High degree of confidentiality is associated with the position. Work involves a moderate degree of independent decision-making, creativity, flexibility and ability to respond to emergencies on a 24/7 basis, as needed, and to attend to off-hour meetings/events. Much of the work is high-pressured with time constraints.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in political science, communications, business administration, and/or public relations AND 4-7 years related experience in governmental affairs, city government, customer service, communications, or relevant utility experience OR, in lieu of a bachelor's degree, 6-9 years relevant experience is required.
  • Proven ability to work in cross-functional teams, with experience in project management. Requires strong organizational skills.
  • Strong communications skills both written and oral.
  • Demonstrated skills in Microsoft products including Excel and PowerPoint


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master in Business Administration
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of Company policies and procedures in areas of Customer Service, Credit and Collections and Construction and Maintenance.
  • Leadership skills proven in the area of team building, issues management and process improvements.
  • Proven ability to write detailed reports, letters and analyze quantitative data.
  • Advanced Excel and PowerPoint Skills
