The Sr Methods Specialist has the overall responsibility for the initiation, research, development, and approval of construction, operating, and maintenance, work practices, tools, and equipment to support various business unit functional areas. The Sr Methods Specialist works under the general supervision of the Manager Technology and Data Analytics and/or BGE UAS Program Manager and spends significant time interfacing directly with his/her customers throughout BGE System (and EU System as needed).  
This position supports the Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS/Drone) operations across BGE and will be responsible for: Oversee drone operations for planned and emergent missions on transmission, substation, distribution, and gas systems (including emergency preparedness / system restoration activities)
- Serve as Lead Pilot, trainer, and subject matter expert for all UAS operations
- Serve as primary point-of-contact for all operational matters including flight crew selection and planning & coordination of missions
- Coordinate operations with internal flight crews and external flight crews, as needed- Maintain and coordinate compliance with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and internal documentation- Creating and implementing EU/BGE’s and departmental policies, initiatives, procedures & guidelines to satisfy corporate, business unit, municipal and regulatory requirements (such as FAA)- Working collaboratively and proactively with OEM personnel, UAV management, external vendors, other utilities, and training Operational staff to initiate, research, design, evaluate, and develop work processes and tools that enhances overall safety, increases productivity, and reduce operational costs.  -Develop mission plans, pre-mission preparations, perform data collection, data processing, oversee equipment/system repair, integration and test of UAS equipment/systems, and overall support of UAS projects end-to-end for BGE UAS Operations

-Leads assigned field-side operational mission, manages associated assets, and oversee the assigned field team

Position may be required to work extended hours, including 24 x 7 coverage during storms or other energy delivery emergencies.



- Research, test, and develop field work practices, procedures, tools, equipment, and materials for various business unit functional areas. 

- Develop and distribute Field Notes, Equipment Bulletins, and other appropriate documentation to alert the workforce to procedural changes, critical issues, and new tools and equipment. 

- Proactively interface with other EED Departments to promote work practices and procedures, tools and equipment that focus on enhanced safety, increased productivity, and reduced cost. 

- Foster collaborative working relationships with counterparts throughout Exelon so synergies will be leveraged and “ Being One” will be part of every day business. 

Provide “ Subject Matter Expertise” in ACE, RCI, and other related investigations to assist the business in safety, procedural, and legal requirements

Assure timely response to emergencies and provide 24 hour/day coverage for emergency response support. 

Special Posting Notes:  Strongly preferred
-At least 5-8 years of experience in electric and/or gas utility performing various types of inspections/operations
-Experience as UAS operator with FAA UAS Part 107 Operators Certificate and maintain FAA Remote pilot part 107 OR Ability to obtain within a short time
-Certified AUVSI TOP Level 2 UAV Operator is a strong plus OR Ability to obtain within a short time frame 
-Knowledge of UAS hardware, software and sensors
-Basic understanding of remote sensing and photogrammetry
-DJI flight platform experience 
-Strong demonstrated research, investigation, and problem-solving abilities



- Bachelors degree and 5- 8 years experience or in lieu of degree 9- 12 years experience

- Ability to develop, and maintain effective working relationships with customers, peers, subordinates, and management.

- Consistent demonstration of safety as a personal and organizational value.

- Technical, analytical, and organizational skills along with strong demonstrated oral and written skills

- Proficient computer skills in MS Office and other Windows based applications

- Supervisory experience, including second line supervision level, project management, team direction, peer challenging, and senior leadership interface.


- The Sr Methods Specialist utilizes project management skills on a daily basis as he/she interfaces with various departments and levels of employees while executing multiple tasks targeted towards improving and aligning work practices, procedures, tools, and equipment that focus on driving world-class safety and productivity.

- The Sr Methods Specialist must possess a comprehensive understanding of the Safety Rule Book and Work Practices so they can incorporate that knowledge with the daily routine and emergent requests for information, clarification, and interpretations they receive.

- In addition, the Sr Methods Specialist must demonstrate the ability to understand and proficiently operate a wide range of equipment and tools in use by their customers.

- Finally, the Sr Methods Specialist is required to respond to system needs on a 24 hour a day basis to meet the needs of the business.
