- Performs the work leader duties listed in Appendix A of the Organization Planning Manual.
- Instructs employees in work procedures and use of shop equipment.
- Direct and oversee mechanics in day-to-day operations and activities at repair facilities.
- Coordinate activities across multiple shifts and locations.
- Ensure adherence to Company and departmental safety rules and practices. Provide coaching to employees to achieve and maintain optimum performance in safety and productivity. Acts as liaison with operating departments to facilitate - vehicle and equipment maintenance, especially as it relates to preventive maintenance scheduling and the availability of units for required repairs.
- Assists the Supervisor in the preparation of cost estimates and budget preparation.  Monitors the work of vendors for the purpose of reporting quality and timeliness of vendor work to the appropriate quality assurance personnel.  - Verifies the correctness of vendor billing for the Local Repair Supervisor.
- Coordinates annual testing program of hydraulic equipment and aerial devices within assigned maintenance area.
- Reviews, analyzes, recommends changes and drafts chassis repair procedures as required.  Utilizes various Department maintenance management and parts ordering computer systems to facilitate the completion of assigned work.
- As needed, Worklead will be expected to troubleshoot and perform repairs and preventative maintenance of all fleet assets.
- Reviews Mechanics' work by random spot checks and road tests.  Performs required clerical work, such as preparing store orders, approving time sheets, inspection forms, and periodic reports.
- Performs road service as required. 

Position may be required to work extended hours, including 24 x 7 coverage during storms or other energy delivery emergencies.



Reports To:

Supervisor - Fleet Maintenance

Knowledge of Department of Transportation (DOT) Inspection procedure.


- Demonstrated ability to interpret parts interchange and specification books.

- Ability to diagnose automotive, medium/heavy duty truck, construction and auxiliary equipment problems and recommend repairs procedure.

- Ability to direct work of others and to perform associated paperwork.

- Satisfactory completion of the Construction and Skills Trades Test (CAST).

- Ability to meet Company driving standards, including a valid driver’s license.

- Must pass U.S. Department of Transportation required Drug and Alcohol Test.


- High School diploma or equivalent combination of formal education/training and experience.

- Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Master Truck certification required. 

- Over four years’ experience in maintenance and inspection of: light duty, medium/heavy duty truck, construction and auxiliary equipment. 

- Experience in maintenance, inspections and repairs of gasoline engines, diesel engines and hydraulic-powered systems.
