PRIMARY PURPOSE OF POSITION 


We have an immediate need for 1 Senior Engineer to be a Subject Matter Expert on various topics within BGE’s Electric Distribution Engineering and Standards Unit.  Electric distribution subject areas include but are not limited to Distribution Equipment & Materials and Preventative Maintenance Inspection Programs.  Provides consultation and recommendations to the Company within and to other business units and/or customers.


Position may be required to work extended hours, including 24 x 7 coverage during storms or other energy delivery emergencies.


PRIMARY DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • The successful candidate will be a primary Engineering Technical Point of Contact for distribution equipment related topics.
  • The successful candidate will work on assignments that include a wide variety of issues with the assigned distribution equipment.  This includes but is not limited to leading / supporting the following:
    • Creation or updates to equipment specifications,
    • Equipment sourcing efforts,
    • Engineering analysis,
    • Field issue troubleshooting,
    • Developing / enhancing equipment inspection programs,
    • Equipment innovation projects,
    • Resolution of internal / external customer issues, and
    • New equipment introductions.
  • The successful candidate will also work on additional assignments that may include leading / supporting the following:
    • Adhoc studies and analyses,
    • Exelon Utility Peer Group initiatives,
    • Industry Committee Projects,
    • Regulatory filings,
    • Electric Distribution Engineering Handbook updates,
    • Meeting with vendors to review, evaluate, and approve new equipment for possible implementation,
    • Vendor plant evaluations, and
    • Development of future initiatives and activities that will improve the internal and external customer experience.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering
    • Ability to analyze and interpret complex electrical and mechanical systems
    • Knowledge and ability to apply problem solving approaches and engineering theory
    • Knowledge of engineering designs, principles and practices
  • Eight or more years of professional engineering experience
  • Thorough knowledge and experience in unique areas of engineering expertise
  • Detailed knowledge of applicable standards, codes methods, and practices unique to areas of expertise
  • Ability to apply advanced engineering principles to identify and resolve complex issues
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc. and willingness to learn / become proficient with other applications including Asset Suite 8, Power BI, SmallWorld, ArcMap, etc.
  • Personal characteristics should include a high level of integrity, confidence, strong initiative taking, the ability to get agreement/buy-in, and a team-oriented work ethic.
  • Customer driven with good oral and written communications skills and general analytical, problem solving, and project management skills.
  • This position is expected to resolve most questions and problems through interaction with internal and/or external stakeholders and staff across the organization and escalates only the most complex issues.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Graduate degree or Graduate level work in Engineering or Business Administration
  • Licensed Professional Engineer
