PRIMARY PURPOSE OF POSITION 


Role is considered to be the Career Level. Perform detailed analysis and prepare comprehensive reports to support business operations. Conduct complex modeling, forecasting, trending, variance analysis, business case development, and other general financial and operational analysis. Monitor and coordinate activities to manage operational performance (e.g., safety, reliability, service level, productivity, etc.). Research and provide statistical financial and operational information. Track, maintain, analyze and provide current information on the operation’s business scorecard or key performance indicators (KPIs). Develop, organize and present performance reports for both internal and external use. Develop and conduct short-term and long-range business planning. May develop, implement, evaluate or lead projects or initiatives (e.g., business plan or process improvement initiatives). Provide broad analytical and operational support to the business unit.


Position may be required to work extended hours, including 24 x 7 coverage during storms or other energy delivery emergencies.


PRIMARY DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Develop and conduct short-term and long-range business planning. Conduct complex modeling, forecasting, trending, variance analysis, business case development, and other financial and operational analysis (e.g., operational effectiveness, budget, resource, workload, workforce and capacity utilization, competitor, etc.).
  • Provide statistical information to ensure the most effective utilization of personnel, equipment and/or materials for business operations.
  • Monitor and coordinate activities to manage operational performance (e.g., safety, reliability, service level, productivity, etc.) and make recommendations for improvement.
  • Track, maintain, analyze and provide current information on the operation’s business scorecard or key performance indicators (KPIs).
  • Perform analysis of the operation’s cost elements to ensure effective and efficient operations.
  • Prepare and analyze comprehensive and detailed reports.
  • Develop, organize and present detailed performance reports for both internal and external use.
  • May develop, implement, evaluate or lead projects or initiatives (e.g., business plan or process improvement initiatives).
  • Provide broad analytical and operational support to the business unit.


POSITION SCOPE 

 

This role is part of the BGE multi-year plan (MYP) team.  Coordinates, develops, prepares, and reviews financial and regulatory analyses concerning the MYP, including capital and O&M.  Assists with analyses, testimony and discovery concerning the multi-year plan and related filings, including project list updates, Annual Informational Filings, reconciliations and full multi-year plan applications.   Supports and provides analyses for the monthly and quarterly management and monitoring of multi-year plan results.  During a multi-year plan proceeding, supports testimony and discovery of financial and operating witnesses, with a focus on return on equity testimony and financial/budgetary support of operational witness testimonies.  Assists and supports the design and implementation of process improvements aimed at the efficiency and quality of multi-year plan filings and results. Assists the Managers working on the MYP as needed.  Must be able to fill ad hoc requests from within and outside the organization, including requests from management, regarding the multi-year plan.  Individual should be flexible, proactive, analytical, and possess strong written and oral communication and presentation skills. 
    
Position reports to Manager.  Day to day responsibilities are project and functional in nature and include the provision of guidance and support to other staff with respect to work related to the preparation, analysis of, and filing of multi-year plan filings, discovery, testimony and reports.
    

  • Work is diversified and complex in nature.  Work involves the understanding and application of financial concepts and Company regulatory policies.  Work also involves the application of expert judgment, initiative, and ingenuity. 
  • Work often involves the need to complete important assignments under severe time constraints and changing conditions. Work involves coordinating efforts with many different functional areas, including Finance, Regulatory, Legal and Electric and Gas Operations.  Work includes the creation, revision, and review of financial analyses, testimony, data request responses, legal briefs, regulatory orders, and internally and externally distributed informational and instructional multi-year plan-related material.  Work includes active participation in regulatory proceedings, including consultant and expert witness activities.
  • Work includes contact with people that are internal and external to the Company.  Work involves the application of interpersonal, expert judgment, and functional direction skills in team and consultant activities.  Work includes interaction with members of the public utility commission staff and other parties involved in the electric and gas utility industry.
  • Work involves the use of computer word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation applications.
  • Work is subject to periodic review.
  • Work is generally within an office or home-office setting.   

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business or Engineering AND 5 - 8 years related business experience, or in lieu of Bachelor’s degree, a minimum of 9 - 12 years relevant business experience is required.
  • Comprehensive understanding of applicable standards, methods, processes and practices, business fundamentals, and performance metrics in the specific functional area supported by this position (e.g., asset management, electric or gas operations, customer service, transmission and substation, distribution system operations, regulatory and external affairs, transmission operations and planning).
  • Advanced proficiency in standard software applications (e.g., Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Project), specialized business technologies and applications (e.g., workforce management, project management, PassPort, Brio, CIS, EPS, Business Objects, SAP planning, business modeling, forecasting, voice response unit, automatic call distributors, work management, outage management) to retrieve and analyze data in support of business needs.
  • Ability to provide in-depth analysis and apply managerial accounting concepts, customer intelligence gathering, forecasting, staff planning, scheduling, analytical and statistical problem solving, financial, accounting, business and budget analysis.
  • Demonstrated strong analytical skills for project evaluation including analysis of complex projects with economic, financial, risk and decision analysis. Proficient in business case development and ability to effectively present business cases to business unit leadership.
  • Customer driven with good oral and written communications skills and strong analytical, problem solving and project management skills.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the practices, procedures and principles of performance analysis (trending, root cause and gap analysis) benchmarking and audit compliance. Ability to analyze organizational data and complex problems, interpret and recommend alternative courses of action, and implement intervention strategies to attain performance targets.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • MBA or relevant advanced degree.
